Report of a roundtable
discussion on Migrants, Refugees and Statelessness in India, with focus on
the Rohingya refugees of Myanmar and Syrian Refugees, held at Swabhumi,
Kolkata, on 6 April 2017. Ranabir Samaddar, Paula Banerjee, Professor and

Ranabir Samaddar delivered a public lecture titled “Why
Should We Return to the Histories of Immigration in the Late Nineteenth and
Early Twentieth Century?” jointly organized by Tata Institute of Social
Sciences, Patna and Department of History, Patna University on 23 August
2016.
In collaboration between the
CRG and University of Western Sydney, a year long research programme
(2015-2016) on Logistical Worlds: Infrastructure, Software and Labour
has been undertaken. A workshop on the same was organized in Kolkata on 31

In collaboration with the Rosa
Luxemburg Stiftung (RLS), a two-day consultative meeting was held on 28 and
29 February 2016 on Social and Political Mapping of Popular Movements,
Logistical Vision and Infrastructure of India. This meeting was
followed by a year long research programme in the year 2016. Details to be

CRG has completed a year long research programme on the Rohingya
Refugees in India. The Research outcome by the six researchers headed by
Professor Ranabir Samaddar and Professor Sabyasachi Basy Ray Chaudhury, Vice
Chancellor, Rabindra Bharati University has been published in a Report
entitled "Rohingyas: The Emergence of a Stateless Community". The Report
was
released by CRG at the Lincoln Room, American Center in Kolkata, West Bengal, on
9 February 2016
between 4-6 pm.

The
Rohingya Report was also released in New Delhi, on 1 December 2015, at the
Indian Society of International Law (ISIL) from 5 pm by Dr. E. M. S. Natchiappan,
President of ISIL. The Report release was followed by a round-table discussion
by eminent scholars and social activists like Mahendra Lama (Former Vice
Chancellor of Sikkim University), Bharat Bhushan (Editor, Catch News and Former
Editor, Hindustan Times) and Vrinda Grover (Jurist, Lawyer and Human Rights
activist). This session was chaired by Ritu Menon (Founder and Publisher, Women
Unlimited).
